None of these so-called monuments will be completed. We must support the groups suing to stop and we must tear them down, starting January 21, 2029. If we memorialize anything, it has to be emphasized that the Republican Party traded its soul for power and they used it to support a mad man who tried to destroy the country. They can never be forgiven for their cowardice.

So glad I am 78 and live in Southern California . My traveling days are over no visiting Washington DC. By the looks of what he has done so far the renaming of buildings, the banners with his picture I am afraid I would feel like I was in North Korea rather than America. The arc is getting close to the last straw. Tacky is the word of the day! Let’s bring back the city in 2029.i would even get on an airplane (which I am deadly afraid of) with a hammer to be part of the getting rid of what he has done.pure vanity!

I’m envisioning a group effort to destroy all public traces of 47 in D.C. much like the citizens of Germany tearing down the Berlin Wall.

Hi Christine,

I join you with my sledge hammer😃🤗

“That is why it is essential that whatever Trump builds is torn down when he leaves, or at least rebuilt or restored …”. Better to be paid for by confiscation of tRump’s and his family’s ill gotten gains.

If we want one thing to focus on among all the scandalous corruption and destruction, it would simply be immediate removal from power. Full stop.

Best plan of all, imho

If any Democratic president did a fraction of what's he's done, imagine the uproar for impeachment from the other side. Hell, they called for Biden and Obama to be impeached without EVEN HAVING a case for it.

The Dem party leadership has adopted a passive position that's normalizing corruption and destruction, and that's arguably the most outrageous part of the whole political fiasco happening in DC today.

It’s beyond time for the democrats and sound minded republicans to remove the “ orange thing” and his whole orange worshiping crew … that these elected representatives who we the people pay their salaries, pay for their extremely well packaged of life long benefits, as well as all the other “ little “ perks need to “ man the f up “ and do their jobs - not allow this country and its citizens be destroyed… it’s so blatantly obvious- 🤬

1000% disgusting. I hope it won't be built - a total waste of $$ and an affront to the beautiful scenery. Congress HAS to find their backbones.

Oh , god I hate this fxxxing president ,…

With the minuscule exception of the typo in the sentence, “And who better to try to *oversgadow* than Honest Abe”, this piece is perfection.

I join everyone else who fervently hopes that the monster occupying the Oval won’t be permitted to foist yet another of his megalomaniacal monstrosities on our nation. His grotesque occupation of that office (twice!) is monstrosity enough!

As a lover of words, I must thank you for the delicious combination of "megalomaniacal monstrosity". I will be rolling that around on my tongue for a while today! 😂

Always a pleasure to meet a fellow logophile! I’m gratified to know that you enjoyed that alliteration, but am sorry there are so many opportunities to make use of it!

Thank you for this. Trump's taste in everything is execrable: his dress (those absurd ties long enough to trip over), his gaudy interpretation of our oval office, his paving over of our Rose Garden, his preference for Corinthian columns, his wanton destruction of a third of our White House. He remains the stupid man's idea of what a smart man looks and sounds like. He is the worst of America. He must be stopped from his planned desecration of the view of Washington from Arlington National Cemetery, final resting place of the heroes of our true selves.

STOP HIM NOW

Whoa, Maga is going to have a field day with your message today, Elliott ! The East Wing was bad enough, the Kennedy Center but this monstrosity of an arch ? Unthinkable ! When he’s gone we can take it down but why let him build it in the first place ? There has been a way to stop him now !

This is one of the most eloquent expressions of disdain for the self-aggrandizing antics of the madman that far too many Americans call, "My President." I am hurtling toward 80 years old; I can only hope and pray that I see some signs of recovery for our nation before I die. In service to that end, I have eliminated McDonalds from my diet, while I bid Der Pumpkinfuehrer, "Eat up! And don't forget to say, 'super-size it!'"

Hitler had also planned a Triumphal Arch for his new “Germania.” Let’s hope this one never gets built either.

He just loves models and toys. 🧸. What 7 year old mind doesn’t? Little Richie Rich with Vance as his butler.

This edifice to Trump is gross, ugly. If he builds it, I won't come. My apology to Field of Dreams.

Paula's avatar

Yes, Elliot. And clearly, you don’t have to be a psychologist to see what this is, believe me. Thanks for making me laugh in spite of the disgust. Just hand me a hammer and a pick-axe. I can hardly wait.

Sadly this corrupt administration is getting away with rewriting history. Just look at the corrupt SCOTUS; they decided to let Bannon try to reverse his guilt. And Patel has been charged with challenging everything about 1/6 to make it a beautiful day. And our stupid Congressman were attacked at the Capital - wow what dummies. And Grassley has the guts to suggest Insurrectionist Cruz be considered for SCOTUS- neither has done any thing to save democracy in their role in the Senate Judiciary Committee. Corruption and the AIPAC money rule. We once had a judicial system, a Congress that provided for its constituents and ethical lawyers. The oath of office means nothing and it is tossed aside for personal wealth.

Thanks for another poignant post that balances the poetic with a fury toward the absurdity that has become our daily existence.

Let's fight to prevent this vulgar arch, which will help bring the absurdity of Trump to light, but if is erected, it will be lots of fun tearing it down!
