Excellent read this evening, Elliot. I'm exhausted from It all,24/7 trump campaign coverage on TV. I have a name for it, it's 'trump Syndrome" and the Whole World has it. I believe I have the cure, VOTE BLUE Up and Down the Ballot ! Thank You, for sharing this article and will reStack ASAP ๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŒŠ

Trump doesn't appear to even be trying to win the vote. He expects his lawyers and thugs to put him in office and keep him out of jail. But there's something we can do about that. Vote. And win by enough of a margin to foil his plan.

He is apparently focusing on contesting his loss.

Thank you, Elliot, I agree with every word. I say I hate liver as a meal, but I really mean I don't like the taste, texture, or being forced to eat it as a child. However, I truly dislike the entire MAGA cult and its enablers, including Putin. And I hate living in absolute fear of a fascist dictatorship.

Oh Fay, I am right there with you. I think if we win Tuesday it will be a battle in a long war. God give us strength to win over anarchy!

Elliot, you have hit the nail squarely on the head, back and ass. Overshadowed the message???!!! the message is the thing!!! It's a message of hate! It's not just CNN, it's practically the entire media we used to trust. will there be an accounting after Harris wins? I hope so.

Jeff, unfortunately most of our media is owned by just a few , and these few are imcredably rich men with other business interests that should be considered a conflict of interest to owning media . It used to be a given, a normative that there were the three traditional branches of government, but there was another that has often been described as a fourth branch: the free press. You cannot have a democracy with out an educated populace. You canโ€™t have an educated populace if the media does not have stringent enforceable rules that guide it to only relay the facts, Opinoins are not manipulative lies. Free speech does not allow anyone to yell fire in a theater. We seem to have lost our ability to discern the difference between free speech and giving the stage to any and every con man. If someone believes in communism or libertarianism, then they are free to voice their opinions as to why and try to persuade others , but they should never have the right to slander and lie to try and persuade, The public has a right and a need to be protected from lies and and hate speech. This should include leaders of our media to not have any conflicts of interests or desires to control governments.

Biden waded into it artlessly, but at least he called a spade a spade. Garbage, that is.

But Biden right away clarified what he meant. At 77 I sometimes say things in a way they are not intended and have to do a โ€œredoโ€ and explain myself.

Amen to that, at 81, it happens more than I like! But then I think, what the hell, I can speak whatโ€™s on my mind, Iโ€™ll apologize if I hurt someone(never intentionally) but some things need to be said!

Christian, I agree and do the same, but I am not President nor do my mistakes have the same potential consequences. I believe a few years ago Biden would have seen the set up and handled it as any good politician would. I am sorry but he no longer has control of his impulsive responses. It is sad, but obvious that he has stayed too long at the fair,

...but a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams. His shadow shouts in a nightmare scream. His wings are clipped and his feet are tied. So he opens his throat to sing...

...hope is the thing with feathers. That perches in the soul. And sings the tune without the words. And never stops at all...

On the shoulders of giants, from Maya Angelou, Emily Dickinson, Leonard Cohen...as a Scottish reader of your writing, recommended by another, I find myself tilt toward poems of hope that offer the glimmers and shape of stuff even if a stark uncertainty. Coping strategies

Appreciated

It strikes me how Trump'supporters are ok with calling or cheering someone calling Puerto Ricans "garbage" but OH they get sooo offended when President Biden calls them "garbage" for even thinking something like that !!!

They waived the right of being offended when they started talking TRASH about the other political party and supporters.

Itโ€™s a part of his strategy to deflect from his own poor history, fraud, rape, stealing classified documents, etc. etc. Donโ€™t look at me, itโ€™s THEM.

He has brought together people who feel left out and has given them something to believe in. Unfortunately itโ€™s hate.

I donโ€™t consider them Republicans, and I donโ€™t think the true Republicans consider his followers Republicans they are MAGAs.

I miss the true Republican Party. Iโ€™m a life long Democrat from Jimmy Carter on but I appreciate having a second party. Our government is much stronger when things are looked at from different sides. I hope that Kamala Harris becomes our next president and that we have a blue tsunami.

That will help restore our democracy and hopefully drive Trump out of the picture and into prison where he belongs. Then perhaps the Republicans can regroup and we can start working together.

Republicans have a long hard road ahead of them. It will require purging maga and its ideas, and building on true conservative ideology, not billionaire perversion of unfettered capitalism!

I agree that everything that they are doing is smoke and mirrors to distract from the outrageous character of Trump ... Only in this way they can "erase" how shallow and incompetent their candidate is

My opinion - people are not stupid and they ALL can see what's been happening and because of that they will VOTE!

I agree with every word you said Elliot. The word 'pathetic' hit me the hardest because it reminded me of a narcissistic ex-family member that I used to admire and respect. That showed me that you don't want to hold hate in your heart. I love the USA despite it's imperfections and past failures. That's why I voted early for Kamala. Whatever happens Tuesday we will celebrate or grieve and carry on from there.

Rather than hate, I pity those who are politically blind and deaf to all that is MAGA and itโ€™s pied Piper

Spot on - again! trump gives me the same pit in my stomach as when I warded off bullies as a youth.

Mainstream media, eager to appear "balanced" makes no distinction between an old man who misspoke and men who have told vicious and dangerous lies with the absolute intention of "othering" those who don't fit into their definition of 'American' and will pay a steep price if the trump ticket is elected. I wonder if the media has skewed polling results toward trump because their predictions were so wrong about trump when he was elected in 2016.

I find the word 'hate' too emotional, I prefer the word 'detest', or am I wrong? As in I detest Donald Trump!

Itโ€™s a shame that Biden had such an ill-timed gaffe again. Letโ€™s hope that Democrats have enough resources to quickly counteract the GOP attacks.

Good article, written with care, as usual.

I noticed that the Trump campaign literally jumped at the chance to wallow in the mud of perceived name calling. They devoured Biden's comments like hungry wolves, only too eager to try to retaliate using their so limited vocabulary, even borrowing words from their opponents. I distantly remember one of my graduate level government professors explaning the basic difference between Republicans and Democrats. He had deduced that Democrats seek information, while Republicans seek ammunition--ironc when you look at the party symbols. But then such irony it is, when you have a convicted criminal running for President of the United States against a former prosecutor. Who would've thunk.
