Thank you Elliot, for pointing out Seth Rogen's accurate comments. You cannot pretend you are supporting and awarding Science at the same time you are spending even more to support an anti-science, anti-medicine, anti-American regime all so YOU can get more tax breaks.
Thank you, as usual as you say things that resonate with me but don’t lead to despair for me. I sat on my couch for hours watching the events of January 6th and listening to all the talking heads. At Trump’s mammoth Executive Order signing he pardoned all the convicted and imprisoned Jan. 6th rioters even if they had assaulted policemen. Too lazy to figure out who were who. How could regular just plain folk watch that and not understand what was going on ? Or how could regular just plain folk NOT watch the hours of video readily available? So here I sit, sickened every day by a man who told us exactly what he planned for us for months before the election. I don’t see the tipping point yet but in the spirit of Passover and Easter, I am still hopeful.
Beautiful article once again, Father. You truly hit the nail on the head regarding the hypocrisies of this event. They truly hide behind the facade of endorsing science when they are complacent in helping defund major research institutions. Thank you for calling it out!
I have to admit, there's a sort of Keystone Cops comedy about the whole affair, except that the reality is SO horrible that it kind of trumps (no pun intended) the performance art component. You just keep thinking "I can't believe this is happening, I can't believe he/she actually said that..." because it's all so blatantly WRONG on every level. I'm reminded of the Monte Python Skit; "The constitution says..." "No it doesn't" "It's right there in the first amendment"..."Isn't".
"The Supreme Court voted 9-0..." "They didn't"... and so on.
we live in the era of gaslighting, Thank you for pointing out the power of billionaires to disappear important confrontational information, They seem to follow cult rules, .the cult of billionaires, and we all now know they do not care about us, no matter what they say. We are all on a swift learning curve to recognize the methods used by these con persons, Hopefully, this will eventually lead to a more aware populace that is not so easily conned, and to a better government that is for the common good, Maybe?
The editing out of the comments should be a MSM talking point. Probably won’t be though, since they seem only to comment on the big prizes, Oscar, Grammy, Emmy and the such. We need, now more than ever, to have a fully functioning press. We are in a dark place that we need to climb out of, and need everyone to help achieve it.
Rugged individualism in America is a delusion that’s caused real damage. The whole 'self-made' myth? Nonsense. No one alive today exists without standing on the backs of countless others. Most of us don’t forge our own laptops, code our own software, make our own medicine or invent a majority of the science we rely on daily. Your post points to a crucial truth: science is fundamentally collaborative. But let’s not kid ourselves—handing out more awards won’t fix anything. These ceremonies are often just self-congratulatory spectacles that boost egos, not society.
That’s factually incorrect. Free-market systems have been implemented in various forms across many societies throughout history—and over time, they have consistently encountered systemic failures. These failures are not anomalies; they are a reflection of how complex systems behave under stress.
When analyzed through a systems-thinking lens—without emotional or ideological attachment—it becomes clear that most systems, regardless of design, tend to follow similar patterns: growth, saturation, instability, and eventual decline. The idea of infinite growth within a system constrained by finite resources and deep global inequality is fundamentally unsustainable.
You’re making broad assumptions that are impossible to verify because we are facing unprecedented global conditions—ecological, technological, and economic. We've never been here before. So when you confidently claim that a free-market system will indefinitely succeed, it suggests a preference for comforting narratives propagated by those who benefit from the status quo, rather than a willingness to engage with the structural realities that suggest otherwise.
That’s quite the psychoanalysis, Mr. Messenger Shooter. If by “systemic failures” you mean that people keep replacing what works with collectivist delusions, then sure, free markets run into “systemic failures”.
Now let’s talk about your dogmatic, unsupportable assertions, such as the notion that free markets uniquely require infinite growth or “cause” inequality. “Every day is new and unique, so what worked in the past is useless” is a hell of a doctrine. But sure, I’m the crazy one!
I never said you were crazy, and I didn’t claim it couldn’t work. What I am saying is that most reputable economists agree: there’s no such thing as a perfect system. Every system is shaped—and often distorted—by the human element, particularly by greed and power imbalances.
I’m not a black-and-white thinker, and I try to avoid taking advice from those who are clearly benefiting from the status quo. When billionaires who profit from a system insist it’s good for everyone, it’s worth asking: good for whom? What they’re selling isn’t a solution—it’s a narrative that protects their interests, not yours
The truth will out. Shakespeare was not a scientist, but he knew a bit about human nature. Superstition and myth didn't take humans to the moon and other missions even further, and they didn't produce vaccines, responsible for saving many lives. RFK jr is a disaster for public health.
Great column Elliot. Knew nothing about the award or those who inspired it. So insightful and important. Yes of course in Silicon Valley everything they do is because of their individual genius- makes me want to vomit. And thank you Seth Rogan for having the b!&&s to speak the truth to the room.
Unfortunately history is written by the conquerors with the truth suffering distortion at best and complete destruction at worst. I do hope for a better outcome from this revolution of societal norms and power structure but at best it may be a very long time before we see it. Thank you and those like you for the hope you share and the truths you do not hide. As the wheel turns a lot will depend on you and those who face and promote truth to make it a better world.

You can’t hide the truth it’s always comes to out. These billionaires will be in Trouble in the future
Why did you randomly capitalize “trouble”?
big trouble = Trouble

Thank you, Eva. So proud of you and your moral compass.
Thank you for telling us about the award, flawed as it is, but more importantly reporting Seth’s vital and excised words. Thank you 🙏🏽

Go Rogan! Well done, and shame on the deniers. And the “editors.” Shame! Shame!

Linda - definitely yes!

The free market is the only collaborative system in the world. Leftism, by contrast, is destructive.

But keep on demonizing the left.

Bang on. I'm not sure how it is said. Here is my take: What is evident is evident.
Thank you for this lens and for always having a glimmer of light and hope.
Thank you for this as I was not aware this happened and I like being informed, especially of the truth.
