I remember how this song made me sad even when young, the melancholy of the passage of time that we cannot halt. It is still beautiful despite that. Thank you for sharing this with us …
I felt the same sadness when I first heard the song, but it is uplifting. The last season’s days are described as “vintage years,” “golden days” - and they are!
Thank you, Elliot fr this beautiful rendition of a favorite song. I have especially liked Sarah Vaughn's singing, I'm so used to hearing it sung by a man but this recording, especially with the beautiful instrumental variations is superb.
Thank you for the beautiful song Elliot. I feel that fall is in the air with a high of 73 degrees Fahrenheit in Corvallis, Oregon. Against the song’s nostalgia is the contrast of the divisiveness of our presidential campaign, and the wars in the Middle East and Ukraine.
A bit selfish the Labor Day holiday means kids are back in school, the tourist season is slowing down during the week and I have the walk on the strand back.
I love the fall, especially here in New England. I love the crisp, cool mornings and warm and sunny, though brief, afternoons. What’s startling is how fast time seems to be going. It seems like yesterday I was starting college, instead of 45 years ago.
It is often said that people don't like transitions, but this one, summer to autumn, hot to cool, has always thrilled so many of us. And oh, Sarah Vaughan: What a voice.
I'll be 80 in november, have no clue how fast that happened, and the September Song truly speaks to me now.

I had to Google who was playing flute, Herbie Mann is his stage name!
Thank you Elliot. I always enjoy your posts.

Oh, so nice; both your seasonal note and the gentle setting of the song. Lovely, Elliot; thank you.
Thank you
Thank you….my mom used to play this song a lot. As I get older it means more to me and I understand why she played it.
The great Sarah Vaughn and incomparable Clifford Brown, such a great recording of this beautiful song.
A beautiful piece, thank you.
