thank you. Eloquently said. I resonated to your words,

“ how recklessly they can sever our bonds with one another and with the world”

When I speak to friends and family, we all agree in thinking, just when it seems he can’t do anything worse, by the afternoon he has, It is not just the fear of living under a fascist regime and all that that represents, but it is having to helplessly watch it happening. It is feeling those bonds of attachment to our American identity and all that we thought was protected broken, shattered. The easy deceit and betrayals that he seems to take joy in as if he has outsmarted us and deserves praise for his deceit that just hurts, Actually feeling that knife in the heart sensation of grief as the heartstrings that have woven the very character of this country and to each other are being severed. We are no longer who we once were, and none of us knows how the character of this country will be perceived in the future,

It's so true, Elliot - the energy or resilience embedded in language. We need to be nourished by our words so that we can find the corresponding energy needed to stop the destruction and then to address the rebuilding. So true! Thank you for your thoughts.

Concerning the Big, Beautiful, Budget, there is a hidden but deadly item: the Republicans have slipped in a provision that would allow Trump to ignore every TRO or injunction that has already been issued against the administration!

PLEASE POST THIS FAR AND WIDE. IF THE CONGRESS GIVES TRUMP LEGAL PERMISSION TO IGNORE THE JUDICIAL SYSTEM WE ARE IN BIGGER TROUBLE THAN WE KNOW.

Beautiful! I’m saving it to read again. And when we build again I will read another post filled with building words; but until then I’ll remember these words and the hope they leave to us in the end.

Thanks

Many and sharp the num'rous ills

Inwoven with our frame!

More pointed still we make ourselves

Regret, remorse, and shame!

And man, whose heav'n-erected face

The smiles of love adorn,—

Man's inhumanity to man

Makes countless thousands mourn! ~ Robert Burns

And yet there is hope in our Constitution as you say. This the most inhumane and unamerican regime that I've ever seen.

"Life already holds enough tattered chapters—pain, suffering, illness, and loss come with being human. None of that stops, even as we are forced to contend with more."

This is exactly how I feel, Elliott. Everyone has to go through so much sadness in their lifetimes just living our lives. He is adding on so much more stress to everyone's lives and it is exhausting.

And in the powerful words of Leonard Cohen:

“Ring the bells that still can ring,

Forget your perfect offering.

There is a crack, a crack in everything

That's how the light gets in.”

No, you should appreciate Elliot’s words for what they are ! Words of balm and understanding and even hope ! If he knew how to fix this don’t you think he would tell us ? We did this to ourselves. This awful, awful man was elected by us, the American voters. Why escapes me but his election is our reality. Watching his actions, yesterday with the President of South Africa and his total melt down with that NBC reporter is only fodder for late night show hosts. They skewer him brilliantly, we laugh and go to bed. The next morning is a new outrage. And Elliot hands us a cup of coffee figuratively and a hug.

Heather Cox Richardson quoted President Johnson’s address to the graduating class at Michigan in 1964 in her message today. You should read it as you will never hear such inspired hopeful words from anyone in the administration today. Elliot would probably tell us we can and will in the future but I am not too sure.

This regime is about destruction. You nailed it. And with no discernible plan or purpose except to enrich themselves at the expense of everyday Americans and our freedoms. The Senate takes this up after Memorial Day. Call them all.
