Wow. I am humbled by all your comments and support. I will try to respond to you in more detail when I have time. But I also should have added that for those of you who are new here and may be interested in reading older posts, you can find the entire archive of 38 posts (and counting) here: https://elliotkirschner.substack.com/archive
I think you are doing well, Elliot. It isn't easy pit yours lf out there knowing that you may not always get things across the way you hoped or it isn't received as you hoped....but honestly, I have enjoyed reading what you have to share with us. 🙂
“But I also love how you have embraced my writings on science, the arts, and personal reflections.” I am in the part of your readership most interested in science, the arts, and personal reflections. I share your political leanings, but occasional respite from the current craziness is helpful to the task of surviving it.
I agree. I particularly love the thoughtful articles you write about things other than politics, Elliott. It is always a relief to be stimulated to think about something else!
I’m with you Peter in that I am most interested in science, the arts, and personal reflections. The political writings are informative and/or thorough provoking, but I also enjoy a different focus at times.
Just clarifying. I am assuming you were intending this comment as a reply to Elliot Kirschner's post, not my comment. It you are asking me, my Substack is petertremain.substack.com
Cate, I wanted to thank you for comments and your support. I like to imagine I get to sit on a porch and talk to all of you. Hope you are having a good wekeend. I
I agree with this too. We all need something to help keep us grounded and like we belong. These next few months will fly by and anything you can do to keep us together is always welcome.
The fact you have 6000 subscribers means your writing resonates with all of us. I look forward to reading what you write and appreciate that it reflects what is on your mind and what you are working on. I particularly enjoyed your piece on Taylor Swift. Please keep writing as you do; this is a tough time for Americans. Sending you my admiration from Canada. 🍁
I am so glad you are here Alice, and that you enjoyed the piece on Taylor Swift. It is a joy to be able to share thoughts with the world and then hear back in conversation. Please take care. And I've always loved Canada. I've had the good fortune to see a lot of it, including a memorahble overnight train ride from Vancouver to Banff when I was a child.
You wave the magic wand of your words and make us, your faithful readers, respond. Some of us respond in the Comments or with a simple Heart on someone else's Comment or on your "writing of the day," or simply in our own minds and hearts and souls, but not "out loud" so to speak. At least that's the situation in my particular case. Some days I can barely restrain my desire to write about what you wrote, I am so deeply touched. BUT, more often than not, because I am reading and writing from my work desk and during my work time, I must be attentive to my work of the day. And on those days, when I cannot take time to write, you and your writings are no less important-- mission critical, even--than you are on the days when I can and do write. So you keep writing all the time and I'll keep writing when I can and we'll have an excellent partnership! :) You are SO Special -- both you and Mr. Rather impact my days in such a positive way. And I'm sure I"m not the only Reader who feels that way, Sir! :)
Thank you for the kind words, but I must say that the thoughtfulness and quality of the writing in the comments is impressive. I am glad you are part of this community.
I love what you are doing Elliot, the humanity of it, sharing your humanity and life. Keep on keeping on. I always feel good when a letter hits my inbox.
Your instincts are sound. Your posts are consistently stimulating, informative and often entertaining. Your conversational, colloquial style is inviting and engaging.
I welcome all topics, particularly timely ones on current political events and cultural observations. Occasional personal reflections on travel, nature, family and other universal themes are a delightful, refreshing change of focus.
Thanks for sharing insights, knowledge, values and optimism, Elliot.
Alan, it's always good to see your comments pop up and I greatly appreciate your support and how you amplify the newsletter. Please take care. Best wishes.
I like going back through post, on my first readings I take time to process feelings your word’s illicit. On my second I tend to break down what you have written, and do a little research or ponder on something that your words might lead me towards. On my third reading, I tend to think about where my story intersects with what you have written. Story is very important to me. I tell people I come from a long line of storytellers, some were truth tellers,
some weavers of myths (you can interpret that as fibbers or outright liars), though I hope all were well intentioned, and some were keepers of facts and figures. You might be asking where is she going with her response to my question? Well, I think you are a storyteller - both of the truth telling and keeper of facts and figures ilk. I believe you, like your two mentors, are here to document moments of courage and moments of failure. It takes a lot of nerve to leap forward and to bravely share your thoughts, feelings, and your understanding of our chaotic world.
I read your newsletter for a view of our world through younger eyes. I read your stories to help me keep hope alive, so I can keep moving forward. I read your stories to challenge my thinking, to seek meaning in my day to day life, and push me to positive action. Keep telling us your stories and keep telling us the truths we need to hear.
Although I don't have time to read all of your posts, I read as many as possible and always find them to be of value! Keep on doing what you're doing, and we'll keep on reading! Thank you, Elliot!
I really like that you take us to different places Sedona, trees flowering.the news.in this place in time I so enjoy the verity. You need a breath of fresh air every once in a while..keep up the great writing.

Your posts are such a breath of fresh air! Thank you for being so vulnerable.

Putting yourself out there. Ugh. We need an edit button in comments. 🙂

Thank you. I am encouraged that there is interest in seeing our world through a wider lens.

Is your science posted here or elsewhere? I look forward to your posts---especially your authenticity reflected even in political posts.

I enjoy your posts. It feels like we are sitting on the porch having a conversation about what matters. Thank you.
Well-put. I agree totally.
I agree, it feels like we are sitting on the patio with a cup of coffee having a conversation and exchanging ideas and thoughts!!

well done Elliot
it’s the exchange and discourse in the comments where the magic is found ..
Glenn, I completely agree. The comments and the community are the magic. I am proud that I can do my part in inspiring others to share their thoughts.

A tall order, Elliot. I’ve been enjoying your posts and commenting whenever it felt right to do so. Just keep up the good work.
Thank you, Elloit, for “defogging.”
Elliot, how do I send you support? I want you to keep going!
